Servings: 7
Skill Level: Intermediate

Ingredients

  • 1 organic mango, peeled and diced
  • 1 large organic tomatoes, cored and diced
  • 1 organic red bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 2 jalapeno chile, seeded and minced
  • 2 tablespoons ginger root, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons plum sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese chile sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice
  • 30 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking oil for deep frying

Directions

  1. Combine the salsa ingredients (everything but the salt, 5-spice, wrappers, and oil) in a medium bowl; mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour for flavors to blend.
  2. Mix the salt and 5-spice in a small bowl.
  3. Cut the wonton wrappers into strips.
  4. In a wok, heat oil for deep-frying to 350 degrees F.
  5. Deep-fry the wonton strips, a few at a time, until lightly browned, 15-20 seconds on each side.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. While strips are still hot, sprinkle lightly with the salt/5-spice mixture.
  8. Serve the wonton strips with salsa on the side.
