Ingredients
1 pre-made pie crust, frozen
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for filling)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced (1/4 inch thick)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for filling)
1 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces (for topping)
1 piloncillo (brown sugar cones), crushed
Caramel dessert sauce to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
To make the filling, in a large bowl, combine the sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Add the apples and mix well. Set aside.
To make the topping, in a bowl, add the 1 cup flour, the 1/2 cup butter and brown sugar.
Using a fork or a pastry cutter, mix until crumbly, like coarse meal.
To assemble, pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and dot with the 2 tablespoons butter.
Sprinkle with the topping and place in the oven.
Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until crust is golden brown and apples are cooked through. Let cool.
Place 1 pie wedge on a plate, drizzle with caramel sauce and add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
