Ingredients
1 cup full-bodied red wine
1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 stick canela (cinnamon sticks)
1/2 pound dried prunes
1/2 pound dried apricots
1/2 lemon, peel only
Directions
In a saucepan, place the wine, water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon peel; bring to a boil, then simmer 5 minutes.
Add the prunes and apricots; cover and simmer 15 minutes. Turn off the heat.
Let the fruit sit at least 2-3 hours in the syrup. Serve warm, alone, or over your favorite cake or frozen dessert.
