I don't know about you, but when I think of a hammock, I envision myself on a beach on a beautiful sunny day stretched out a few feet above green grass between two coconut trees swinging distance to beautiful white sand and surf and a cold coconut margarita. Hmmmm...that's a mouthful and the life. Now, unfortunately, I don't have a beautiful white sand beach in my backyard, but, fortunately, hammocks aren't just for the beach. They can be employed in all sorts of environments, like during a camping trip, poolside, or, like I just mentioned, simply in your backyard. With or without a couple of sturdy trees, you can have your hammock haven!
A good first step to buying a hammock is to figure out which type of hammock you'd prefer:
- Rope Hammock - made with thick, soft-spun rope and can carry more than one person at a time; tie these between two trees or prop it up with a stand.
- Camping Hammock - used in place of a tent, these hammocks keep you up off the wet ground.
- Poolside Hammock - made fade-resistant, waterproof and colorful, usually comes with a stand.
Other more interesting types include hand-woven hammocks from the Latin American countries of Brazil and Nicaragua; these are beautifully colored and made with natural cotton fibers.
