My favorite new thing this summer? Grilling pizza! It may sound like a difficult thing to do, but it's actually very easy. And it's a wonderful way to entertain - you just lay out lots of different toppings and let your guests make their own creations! It's fun for them (and you) and frees you up to socialize instead of clamoring around the kitchen.
To get started, make a simple pizza dough, such as this one from
Napa Style (Piadine Dough), and form into individual-sized rounds (or any size or shape you'd like!). If you're short on time,
Trader Joe's sells fresh, ready-made pizza dough, but make sure you bring it to room temperature before using or it can be brick-like.
I found it best to follow this process:
- First, cook the dough slightly on the grill (1-2 minutes each side should do it - this will prevent the dough from becoming soggy, especially if your pizza is any thicker than paper).
- If you're brave, add the toppings onto the dough while it's still on the grill; if not, remove the dough from the heat and add your toppings.
- Return the finished product to the grill and complete the grilling process.
- Remove the pizza from the grill and EAT!
Enjoy the last bit of summer and do something new on the grill before the season is over!
