Clarine's Florentines

Many years ago, a family friend used to make florentine cookies/candies every Christmas that were so delicious, my siblings and I would hide ours so nobody else could steal any...and, mind you, we were college-aged! Every year, I would ask Clarine for her recipe, but she never budged - apparently, it was a coveted family recipe she was not allowed to give out. And because, some day, she was going to sell them! Last year, my brother visited after a wedding he attended and plopped a small package in front of me. I turned the box around, and, low and behold, it was a gorgeous box full of Clarine's Florentines, packaged professionally and beautifully! We both screamed with joy "She REALLY did it!" I was so proud of her and knew she would be a complete success! The wedding party had chosen to give Clarine's Florentines as wedding favors - I liked the idea so much we decided to give them away as party favors at my mother-in-law's 70th birthday party. Despite serving three types of cake, most folks ate these fabulous treats right there at the party...and many were scavenging around for favors left behind (obviously, not finding any!). If you've never had a florentine before, they are decadent and divine! Like almond toffee with deep, rich chocolate...truly indulgent. Clarine's Florentines can be found at Bay Area specialty markets such as Mollie Stone's and Andronico's, or you can order them directly from Clarine online: www.clarinesflorentines.com. You will not be disappointed! photo courtesy of Clarine's Florentines
