Brilliant DIY Pendant Lights

Posted July 15, 2011.

Have you been searching for pendant lights and finding that many just don’t fit your budget. If so, you might want to consider making your own. As a result of the increasing popularity of pendant lighting in interior design there is a bevy of do-it-yourself pendant light projects on the web. Here are two of my favorites and why.

This DIY pendant light is surprisingly similar to a designer pendant I’ve seen - the Moooi Random Pendant. With a little bit of string…okay a lot of string, a rubber ball, a pendant light kit, a bucket of glue and some time and patience you can have a chic pendant light for around $50 dollars.

Although this project sounds like it could get a little messy I think it’s worth the effort considering the designer version costs around $600 dollars. Don’t be afraid to add your own creative twist such as experimenting with different size orbs or different types of string. Find full instructions for this DIY pendant light project at Made By Girl.

This is such a creative idea! Who would’ve ever thought paint stir sticks could be so stylish - Laura Lynn from the blog Enjoying the Simple Things – that’s who. This DIY pendant light repurposes an old lamp shade as the base structure to which the paint stir sticks are glued. A quick trip to your local hardware store for a few more supplies and you are ready to get started.

There are many ways to add your own personal style to this DIY project – like staggering the heights of the paint sticks or painting them a fun color. I’m looking forward to making my own paint stir stick pendant and I’m going to paint mine a high gloss black! Make your own DIY Paint Stir Stick Pendant Light.
