A few weeks ago, I decided to install an electric gate across our driveway. Since we have a detached garage, with our driveway leading towards it, we had no way of securing our yard. After we adopted our dog, Puck, it became apparent that a secured yard would make things much easier for us...no need to rush home "to let the dog out" or feel guilty that he was cooped up all day in the house.
I perused online, comparing prices and designs and came across
Amazing Gates. Their website was easy to navigate, the designs were very nice - with something for everyone. The quality of material is what really interested me - these gates are super strong steel and powder coated instead of painted, so no need to worry about chipping.
I ordered a 12' single swing motorized gate. The posts and hinges are monsters and easily hold the 350+ lb. gate with no wheel on the end for support! I also avoided the electrical drama (hiring an electrician, question of building permits, etc.) by purchasing a solar unit to provide power. Another joy of living in California!
The folks at AG were so helpful. I spoke with them countless times asking them questions and getting their opinions. They were so patient with me and so happy (or did a great job of acting like) to help me embark on this big project. AG also had installation videos posted on YouTube, which was a great idea - it really helped me visualize what it would be like as a do-it-yourself-er. Keep in mind, we are a household light on tools and handy skills, but willing and eager to try anything!
I'll have to admit, it was a bigger job than I initially expected. Digging holes 3-4' deep was tough and not having all the tools necessary meant time spent running to the home improvement store. Luckily, our friend Doug, who works in construction, was helping us for the weekend and that made all the difference (yes, thank goodness for Doug!). He had brought many of the tools needed, including know-how! We worked all weekend and were racing the setting sun on Sunday to complete it.
Was it difficult? Very. Would I do it again? You bet! The gate is absolutely gorgeous and we have gotten nothing but compliments from friends and neighbors. And of course we have a very happy pooch who can sunbathe and play outside whenever he wants! We are thrilled with our Amazing Gate!
