The style or shape of your cabinet doors and drawers greatly contribute to the over all look of your kitchen or bath and there are several styles to choose from.

Slab or flat panel doors consist of a single piece of solid wood with no raised or recessed profiling. Slab doors can be made from solid wood, plywood with a veneer, MDF, laminate and even metal. Because of it’s simplicity, this style of door and drawer usually lends itself to a more sleek, contemporary look.

Recessed panel doors have of a door frame with a flat panel inserted into the frame. The center panels are typically made of 1/4” or 3/8” thick material. The edge of the frame where it meets the panel can have different edge details and can give a more traditional look or a more contemporary look, depending on the edge detail you choose. A common recessed panel door is often called a shaker style door.

Raised panel doors and drawers are like recessed panel doors except the inserted panel is made from ¾” thick material that is scooped out at the edges creating a raised center section. Again, the edge of the frame where it meets the panel can have different profiles and the raised panel can also have different profiles. Typically, these doors and drawers lend themselves to more traditional cabinetry designs, but using simpler edge and panel profiles can create a more contemporary look as well.

Both recessed and raised panel doors can have additional moulding added to the door frame. The panel molding is applied to edge of the frame where it meets the panel and typically sticks proud of the frame. This style of cabinet door and drawer has a very traditional look.

Arches can add a more personalized style to any recessed or raised panel door, and are commonly used in more tradtional kitchen and bath designs. The arch usually appears at the top of the panel although sometimes they can happen on both the top and bottom.

Glass Doors

Glass doors are like recessed panel doors except the inset panel is replaced with glass. A glass door can have mullions, or strips of wood, that divide the glass into panes or it can be glass without any dividers.

  • Beveled Glass - is angled at the edges, and grounded and polished; when sunlight passes throughthe edges, it's split into spectrums.
  • Camed Glass - cames are strips of lead, copper, or brass placed between pieces of cut glass to form a pattern. Also known as leaded glass.
  • Sand-Blasted Glass – as the names indicates –this glass is sandblasted giving it a rough, translucent surface; patterns or designs can be sandblasted into the glass for an artistic touch.
  • Patterned Glass - has a textured surface with patterns impressed on it; it's created during a rolled-glass process where semi-molten glass is squeezed between two metal rollers imprinting a design.
