Air Conditioning

For most folks, air conditioning is a must during the hot summer months, or every day if you live in a warmer climate, but the energy it consumes can really take a bite out of your wallet. Although today's air conditioners are more efficient than ever, there are things you can do to alleviate some of that energy consumption (and wallet drain): utilize fans to circulate cool air faster, set your thermostat to a comfortable temperature - a comfortable temperature being as high as is comfortable for you, and insulate, insulate, insulate. There are four general types of air conditioners, each with their pros and cons (including cost): a room air conditioner, a central air conditioner, a split-system central air conditioner, and a packaged central air conditioner. Buying the right type of air conditioner for your needs is the first step to cooling off - you don't want to purchase a packaged central air conditioning unit if you own a studio condo.
